Diving at work news

Those members who wish to dive at work as an archaeologist in the UK and who are considering professional dive training outside of the EU should be aware that the HSE has decided to discontinue automatic recognition of diving qualifications from non-EU countries.

From the implementation date, any diver who holds qualifications from non-EU countries and who wishes to dive at work in the UK will need to apply to the HSE for approval of their qualifications. However, the arrangement will not be retrospective, i.e. the List of Approved Qualifications issued by the HSE and available on their website will remain for non-EU qualifications obtained before the implementation date.

It is not known whether recreational qualifications that are currently treated by the HSE as being equivalent to professional qualifications will be affected. Prospective archaeological divers who require further information should contact the HSE.
