According to the quarterly survey carried out by Landward Research Ltd for the IfA, the state of the market for archaeological businesses in the UK is as follows:
- Turnover of archaeological businesses in the UK is very slightly up in 2010-11 but profitability and business confidence is low. Few organisations anticipate any significant expansion in the next twelve months.
- A significant number of businesses in the sector now have subsidiary/regional offices.
- The number of people employed in archaeology remains flat. Staff turnover levels are low and the majority of people who have lost jobs in the last six months are believed to have stayed in the sector.
